Why yoga has become so popular, and how it can benefit you physically, emotionally and spiritually??

The yoga symbol “Om” is said to be the ancient (old) sound of the universe and encompasses all words and all sounds in human language. Yoga is not just about doing a few joint, muscle or stretching exercises every day. It is a combination of three things: different postures, breathing patterns and meditation. A few minutes of yoga during the day can relax both your body and your mind, by releasing tension that accumulates in the muscles, and pacifying your overworked brain. Beat that hangover from last night’s binge with yoga. Certain postures, like fish, shoulder stand and plow, work on the thyroid gland and can help get rid of your hangover faster.

The word “yoga” is derived from the Sanskrit root yuj meaning to yoke or join together. It most often refers to the yoking of a conscious subject (jiva-atman) with a Supreme Spirit (parama ta man) in order to reach an ecstatic condition (Samadhi, a “placing or putting together”). It is derived from the Proto-Indo-European base *yeug-, meaning “to join” as in jugular. According to Hindu mythology, Shiva is considered the Supreme Lord of Yoga.

Practicing yoga has proved to improve relationships. A relaxed, happy and contented mind is better equipped to deal with relationships of every kind—professional and personal.
